Beautiful Kaupo Gap is enshrouded with clouds and surrounded with greenery.

Kaupo Gap on the south flank of Haleakala Volcano originated when a large section of the mountain slid south from erosion cause by wind and rain over a period of thousands of years. A lava flow that overlies the debris flow at 340-ft elevation is about 120,000 years old. The eastern segment of Haleakala Crater opens southward through Kaupo Gap.
